It was a time of great anticipation and wonder as my daughter awaited the birth of her first child, a daughter, Robin, in 2013. Her cousin and childhood friend molded this form of her pregnant shape at my house. Anna asked that it be painted with waterlilies. For me waterlilies are a symbol of contemplation, peace, opening, and the connection between birth and water. It felt right to finally, after 7 years, paint this for a show about the female gaze.
